Science at EHMS is a fun, active, educational, and disciplined study. Students will succeed if they take notes, review their notes, do homework, and actively participate in the learning process.

Seventh grade Science focuses on Life Science (cells, plant and animal kingdoms, genetics and family life) while eighth grade focuses on Physical Science (atoms, matter, chemistry, force and motion, and the solar system). Students grow exponentially at this stage, physically, mentally and intellectually. They learn to master simple tasks like measuring and take on very complex issues such as global warming. Through it all, they develop social skills as so much of our activities are group oriented.

Eighth grade students have the opportunity to take Honors Science if they meet the citizenship, course, and grade requirements. To be eligible for Honors Science, students must be enrolled in Algebra or better, have a B or better in both terms of 7th grade Science, and exemplify the Harris core values. The Honors Science class covers both Physical Science and Earth Science (9th grade science) in one year. Students who successfully complete Honors Science with a B or better in both December and May will take Biology as a freshman in high school rather than Earth Science.

Science is all about the students and the world around them. We look forward to teaching them and learning from them.
