NES Alumni

Edward Harris, Jr. Middle School is now an alumnus of the NASA Explorer School Program. The NES program has been reorganized but, as our NASA connections say, "Once a NASA Explorer School, always a NASA Explorer School" and the NES Team continues to plan activities for your student.

We have high hopes that our main family activities, Math & Science Discovery Night and our Star Parties, will continue.  Both have been huge successes in the past with large turnouts.  The astronaut visit and assemblies have been very popular so we are trying to arrange for another visit by a working astronaut.  And our math and science classes will continue to incorporate NASA-related activities into the curriculum.  Already, 11 seventh grade math classes celebrated World Space Week by building and launching rockets.

For the last two years, EHMS students have competed in NASA's Student Symposium.  The winning students travel to a NASA facility to present the results of their research to NASA personnel and to other students from across the country.  Kelly Banh and Meilin Xiang earned a trip to the Houston Space Center in 2009.  Dennis Kuma and Andre Viloria scored a trip to Florida's Kennedy Space Center in 2010.  We don't have details yet, but NASA plans to continue this opportunity.

We look forward to another great year with NASA at Edward Harris, Jr. Middle School.
