Principal’s Corner Message

Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year and to the Edward Harris, Jr. Middle School family. This year I special, as we celebrate our 20th anniversary. I am thrilled to welcome last year’s 7th-grade class back, and of course, I am just as excited to receive a new group of incoming 7th-graders. It is our goal to mold lifelong learners, preparing them for success both now and in the future. At EHMS, we continue to infuse the innovative teaching strategies acquired during recent years, with our dynamic in-person styles, to create a first-class educational experience for our Future College Graduates. We believe that our two-year academic and social development program is second-to-none. Our commitment to developing students who are responsible, have integrity, are considerate, and hard-working, will undoubtedly help our students flourish academically, socially, and emotionally this year.

Trials of the past few years have helped to develop a level of adaptability and resilience that will assist our learning community with any obstacles we face moving forward. Our talented faculty is determined to provide a phenomenal education for our Future College Graduates, through exercising empathy, exceptional pedagogical practices, and technological mastery. You as parents & guardians, have become adept at adjusting to these changes as well, and your compassion in relation to school operations is appreciated. We will rely on your partnership again this year to make sure the school experience is enhanced. We welcome and value your positive energy and dedication to excellence in education, and I look forward to joining you in helping your children reach their greatest potential. Your participation in such programs as our award-winning Parent University program, the C.O.L.T.S. Parent Organization, Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students), Parent Lunch Days, or your attendance at any other events that we may have on campus is vital and encouraged.

It is my hope that after a well-deserved summer break, all stakeholders are rejuvenated and ready to start a new school year. EHMS is a California Gold Ribbon School and a four-time California Honor Roll School. Edward Harris, Jr. Middle School is an institution that is enriched by diversity, strong instruction, and a loving atmosphere. We pride ourselves in assisting our students in learning today so that they can lead tomorrow.

All signs point to another incredibly prolific school year. The curriculum that your students will engage in is aligned with the California Common Core State Standards. Our staff is dedicated to ensuring that your students are prepared for the rigors of high school, college, and potential careers, by equipping them with the 21st-century skills needed to be successful in their future endeavors.  Our comprehensive site offers classes and programs such as Computer Technology, AVID, Leadership, Athletics, and Band, to give our students a well-rounded education, teaching them good study habits and self-discipline as well. The Elk Grove Unified School District’s Graduate Profile illustrates the standard level of accomplishment that we expect our students to possess as they graduate from our EGUSD schools. Our school will give students the opportunity to grow in the areas of problem-solving, communication, self-awareness, technology, community engagement, and character.

Edward Harris, Jr. Middle School operates on a block schedule with 4 terms. Students will take four courses per term in 85 minutes classes. At the end of a nine-week term, students will transition to another set of classes. Seventh and eighth-grade Math, as well as seventh-grade English, are year-long courses. This schedule allows students to engage in multiple subjects throughout the duration of the year.
